9 days left….

December 30th, 2008
Being home is hard when I realize that very soon (9 days), I will be going on a great journey. I am very excited about London, but adjusting to living at home until I fly out is challenging. Since entering college, I have gotten used to living on my own. It is a huge adjustment being home under the rule of my parents again. After living in a cute, spacious room in college, I have gotten used to living by myself. This includes cooking the foods that I enjoy eating and doing fun activities with my friends from Columbia. Returning home to my bed that I have to climb up into (yes, it’s a half bunk bed), is quite an adjustment.

What I have left to do is apply for internships for this summer as well as pack. I have piles of clothes that I’m sifting through to decide what I need to bring. I leave next Friday. While currently I feel like that’s a long way off, I know that it will come sooner than I expect.

No Car Diet

I figured out how to upload videos to my blog. This will be most helpful while I’m in London so I can record some video and bring it back to you.

Enjoy this video that I worked on about the Overshiners.

The Overshiners in Columbia, Missouri just sold their family car. They bike most places– even during the cold and often snowy Missouri winters. Gina bikes her kids (Max, 10 and Anna Rose, 8 ) to school three miles away every day. They don’t do it for health reasons or to save the world, instead they do it because they can.

End of the semester.

December 22nd, 2008

So the semester is finally over. I thought that it would never happen. I worked on finishing two short documentaries for current.com. I was proud with the way they turned out. The first was a story on a woman who bikes everywhere. She doesn’t do it to save the planet. Rather, she likes to instill those beliefs in her kids.

The second video was on my family and how having an older father has affected us. I shot and edited the entire thing. It was interesting to be able to interview my family. I was able to use a lot of cute family photos. These two videos finished my convergence editing semester.

And I’m going to London January 9th. Since my roommate and I were done with the semester and moved out of our apartment we decided to have a goodbye party! It was great to be able to see everyone one last time before I left Columbia. I realize that I have great friends here, but I will be able to see them again soon. Off to Lawrence for the few weeks before I leave.

(And I apologize for not posting sooner. It was hard to get back in the game after my computer’s harddrive died a couple of months ago. Back up your work!!)
